The player controls the hero and his army across four continents, acquiring up to 25 pieces of a map revealing the hidden location for the Sceptre of the order before King Maximus dies. Various details of this task is left to the discretion of the player, allowing for smooth gameplay. For example, not all the scattered sections of the map are required, if the player is able to correctly identify the location of the scepter burial place before the acquisition of all 25 pieces of the map, the game is won . If the rod is not recovered before King Maximus dies (varies depending on difficulty level), the game ends in defeat.
