Gods & Kings is set at 27 new units, 13 new buildings, nine new wonders and nine new playable civilizations. A mechanic with a new religion "faith" resources allow players to find their own religion they may develop a "religion of fully customized global." Diplomacy has been reworked to include espionage, foreign embassies, and new types of city-states (religious and mercantile). City-states also include a new quest system and strategic importance. Moreover, the combat system has been reworked to include more Intelligent AI, expanding modern times, and the strengthening of naval combat with Great Admiral and melee naval units.
