Start your career buccaneers by choosing to go it alone and become the most feared pirate on the seven seas or prove your loyalty and take the coin of one of four different navies, French, English, Spanish or Dutch. The game retains many of the gameplay of the previous games, such as the ability of merchant ships, fight, fighting, exploring and sailing in real time. This last feature is not required, a player may choose to sail around using the map. There is however a new faster combat system, and a more complex trading system.
