The game offers two types of missions: autonomous missions include freeplay and mission of the campaign based on what is actually a tutorial. The mission-based campaign begins when the player, an engineer, is hired by a local stone works supervisor build a settlement stone mine. The player then receives further opportunities to prove, meeting historical figures such as Marcus Licinius Crassus and Julius Caesar. The player is offered various ranks, progressing through titles such as quaestor, aedile, Roman censor, praetor and consul.
