Some aspects of the gameplay in Mass Effect 3 are affected by choices made in the previous games. When you start a new game, players with recorded from Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 files are given the possibility to import into Mass Effect 3 to reflect those choices. If a saved file is imported, more than 1000 variables are taken to help shape the way the last chapter is known. If there are files that are not registered available, there is no cartoon origin-story for new players to help them make quick decisions, as there was in Mass Effect 2. The appearance of imported characters and class are changed.
